DETECTIVES are trying to solve an attempted armed robbery in Mere Brow and are appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.

At around 12.50am on Sunday 7 June, a 34-year-old man has in his burger van at the Leisure Lakes camping site when he has been confronted by two men pointing firearms through the top half of a stable-type door. They demanded he hand over the till.

The men have then tried to open the bottom half of the door but the victim has tried to prevent them gaining access. He has then been repeatedly punched to the head and face.

The offenders have been disturbed and made off when a nearby resident went over to the van on hearing pleads for help from the victim.

DC Dom Webster from Skelmersdale CID said: “This was a terrifying attack for the victim who ended up not only having to deal with the fact he was about to be robbed but he was then badly assaulted for trying to protect his van and takings.

“Had the offenders not been disturbed, the man could have been seriously hurt as well as having his money taken.

“I would appeal for anyone with any information about this incident to make contact with us.”

The pair are described as being white, of medium build and they spoke with Liverpool accents.

Anyone with information can contact DC 168 Dom Webster on 01695 566179 quoting incident reference number0094 of 7 June.

If the caller does not get an answer, they can alternatively call 101, or details can also be passed to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at Crimestoppers-uk.org. No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to court.
