Arcade shopping is the Way forward, say retail chiefs

20th October 2020

The once booming Wayfarers shopping arcade has ramped up a marketing campaign to find new businesses for its empty units.

It follows the loss of one of its flagship stores, Lapel Menswear, who have now moved into a prime retail spot on Lord Street.

Now bosses at Wayfarers Shopping Arcade, arguably one of the biggest Lord Street landmarks since 1898, has issued a plea for new business to revitalise the premier shopping destination in the heart of Southport.

Businesses are urged to take advantage of the ‘amazing setting’ of Wayfarers Arcade which has the ‘wow factor’ to draw in potential customers.

The Grade II listed site has undergone extensive restorations to the 13m span, glazed roof, which makes it one of the largest in the UK; as well as authentic terrazzo tiles and French mahogany shop fronts.

Wayfarer’s Arcade have been among many shopping destinations to suffer from lack of footfall due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and it is hoped that this push for new business will save a much loved part of Southport’s high street.

The arcade currently hosted big names alongside award winning small independents and is considered vital to the survival of Southport’s high street.
