Appeal for information following rape of woman in Liverpool City Centre

Detectives are investigating following the rape of a woman in Liverpool City Centre in the early hours of this morning, Sunday 1 December.

At 3.40am, a call was received reporting a woman in her 20s being found in a distressed state in Great Homer Street, having reportedly been approached from behind by a man and dragged into bushes.

The incident was seen by a member of the public and the man ran off towards Great Nelson Street. The victim is being supported by specialist officers as enquiries are carried out, including CCTV, witnesses and forensics.

The man is described as white, 5ft 8in tall, in his early 20s, and wearing a dark puffa-style microlight jacket with a hood.

Detective Inspector Ben Dyer said: “We’re carrying out extensive enquiries into this shocking attack, and our specially trained officers will be fully supporting the victim following her extremely traumatic experience.

“The incident took place near to student residences, and we have been visiting and dropping letters in to all those who live nearby. I want to assure the community that we are gathering information and will be providing a presence in the area.

“Did you hear anything or have heard talk since? I want to appeal to anyone with information, saw the incident, or a man matching the description in the area or running off at around 3.40am to come forward.

“Any small detail could be vital to the investigation, from CCTV, dashcam, or other footage or detail, so let us judge what you know and we will take appropriate action.”
