Appeal for CCTV after vandals damage cars in Southport

Southport officers are appealing for information from the public after a number of vehicles were vandalised in the Crossens area.

Sometime in the hours of darkness, between 8pm on Sunday 13 August and 7.30am today, Monday 14 August, an unknown individual or group spayed offensive graffiti on approximately 12 vehicles parked on Pool Street, off Rufford Road, Southport.

Sergeant Andy Dentith from Southport Local Policing Team said: “To vandalise 12 vehicles with offensive graffiti is totally disgraceful and we are committed to doing all that we can to trace the people responsible.

“At the current time it is too early to say how much it is going to cost to repair all of the vehicles that have been targeted by these vandals. Investigations into the incidents are in their early stages and we are following a number of lines of enquiry, including forensics.

“As part of the investigation I am keen to speak to anyone who lives in the Pool Street or Rufford Road area and has CCTV cameras at the front of their homes, as I believe that they may have vital information to assist with our investigation.

“I’m also keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time these incidents occurred and believes they may have witnessed anything suspicious.

“Following the vandalism there will be an increased police presence in the local area over the coming days to provide reassurance to residents.”

Anyone with an information in relation to the incident is asked to contact Merseyside Police on 101 quoting incident number 192 of 14 August 2017. Information can also be passed anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
