Appeal after 14-year-old injured in Burscough collision

We are appealing for information following a collision which has left a 14-year-old girl with serious injuries.

The incident occurred at around 3.45pm yesterday (September 21st) on the A59 Moss Lane, Burscough, between the girl and a blue and white Mercedes Sprinter van.

It is believed the van was travelling south towards Burscough at the time.

The girl was airlifted to Alder Hey with head injuries, where she remains in a critical but stable condition. The 28-year-old driver of the Mercedes was treated by paramedics at the scene and did not require further treatment.

Anybody with information about the incident is now being urged to contact police.

Sergeant Adam Dawson, of the Lancashire Roads Policing Unit, said: “This incident has left a teenage girl with serious injuries and we are now trying to piece together exactly what happened.

“Maybe you saw the girl or the van in the moments before the collision, or maybe you saw the incident unfold. If you have any information, however small, we would urge you to contact us as soon as possible.

“We would also like to thank the local residents who assisted the emergency services at the scene.”

Anybody with information about this incident is asked to contact police on 101 quoting log number 920 of September 21st.
