Anger at continuing and hidden costs of Southport hospital boss exclusion

Local NHS spokesperson Councillor Tony Dawson said:

“It is good that some degree of permanence is being restored to the Southport Hospital group, notwithstanding the fact that the patients of Southport are still presently paying for two Chief Executives meaning twice the salary of the prime Minister.”

“It would help if the issue of the future Chairman of this NHS Hospital Trust was also sorted out for more than ac couple of years. It seems to me that there is a strong case for someone with clear local links and an understanding of the local Health Service gained through being a patient in Southport, Formby or Ormskirk.”

“The patients of the Southport area also deserve to know how much else this entire process has cost them, diverting cash away from much-needed services. Unfortunately, attempts so far to gain this information through Freedom of Information requests have been stonewalled but I am not going to give up easily.”

Southport Hospital update to conclusion of disciplinary investigation

Following the recent announcement relating to the conclusion of the independent investigation into conduct allegations against four senior members of staff, the Trust can confirm that the Deputy Director of Performance, Richard McCarthy, has been cleared of all allegations and his exclusion has been lifted.

The Director of Human Resources has resigned from her position, and the Chief Operating Officer retired in late July. Although they are no longer employed by the Trust, their cases will still be going to the next stage of the disciplinary process in accordance with Trust HR policies.

Therese Patten, who is Associate Director of Strategic Development and Partnership at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in Liverpool, will join the Trust as Chief Operating Officer next month. She previously held senior positions at 5 Boroughs Partnership NHS Foundation Trust based in Warrington.

Iain McInnes, interim Chief Executive, said: “Therese has extensive regional, national and international experience as a senior manager in healthcare. She will be a major asset to the Trust and we look forward to welcoming her.”
