‘A’mazing Southport students secure places at top Universities

A Level results celebrations continue at King George V College, Southport as outstanding results enable students to successfully secure places to study at top Universities.

Staff and students celebrated an ‘A’mazing round of results at Southport’s top performing sixth form College, which saw 66% of students gaining at least one A* or A grade. A* success stories include:

Dean Grierson

Maths (A*), Further Maths (A), Physics (A)

Will now study Engineering at Lancaster University.

Abbie Harrison

Law (A*), Psychology (A), English Combined (A)

Will now study Law at University of Liverpool.

Luke McAdam

Film Studies (A*), Drama & Theatre Studies (A*), Music Technology (D*)

Will now take a gap year before studying at Royal Holloway, London.

Ruby Campbell

Drama & Theatre Studies (A*), Geography (A), Fine Art (B)

Will now study Art and Design at the Manchester School of Art.

Simon Preston

Biology (A*), Geology (A), Chemistry (B)

Will now study Medicine at Newcastle University.

A* success Luke McAdam, who is from Southport, said, “I’m ecstatic with my results! My teachers at KGV have gone above and beyond, and always motivated me to achieve.”

Other success stories include:

Keir Nicholas-Haizelden who achieved AAB and will study Microbiology at the University of Liverpool; Caitlin Cambell who achieved AAA and will study History at Edinburgh University; Wendy Xu who achieved A*AB and will study Maths at the University of Manchester; Christopher Stoops who achieved A*AC and will study French and Spanish at the University of Manchester; James Hill who achieved AAB and will study Zoology with conservation at Bangor University; Michael Cooper who achieved D*D*D* and will study Film Production at Salford University.

Keir, a former Birkdale HS student and Student Governor at the College, said, “I’m over the moon – I can’t describe the feeling!

“KGV has been an experience that I would not trade for anything. Students are treated as adults and you have lots of independence; it has been this environment that I think has shaped my fellow students and I into the adults we are now.

Overall, 77% of KGV students achieved high grades and the College’s overall A Level pass rate is an impressive 99%, with 30 subject areas achieving 100% high grades.

The college also received a 100% pass rate for BTEC Advanced Level Extended Diplomas with 90% of these at Distinction grade or above.

Students were congratulated during a celebratory Results Day BBQ, which both friends and family were invited to attend.

Acting Principal, Anne-Marie Francis, said, “We are tremendously proud of all our students as they progress to University and to see so many gaining places at top flight destinations is testament to the hard work and commitment of both students and staff.”

Anne-Marie added, “It has been a fabulous and very proud day here at KGV, the sun shone for our BBQ and so many students came along to celebrate their high grade success.  I wish all our leavers every future success and also remind them we are always here for them and encourage them to keep in touch.”
