All Souls Dramatic Club in Southport launches appeal for new home for its costumes

    By COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTOR11th November 2020

A dramatic club in Southport is appealing for somewhere to store its colourful costumes.

The award-winning All Souls is over half a century old and performs one of the best pantomimes in the North West every year.

They are in a race against time to find new premises locally after a change in use of the church hall they currently use.

All Souls Head Of Wardrobe Chris Watkinson said: “All Souls Dramatic Club is urgently in need of a room to rent to store costumes for our society.

“We are about to lose our present room at Victoria Methodist Church Hall in Southport due to the change of use of the premises.

“In these uncertain times it is difficult to source a new room.”

All Souls Dramatic Club is a long standing amateur group which has been performing pantomimes for over 50 years.

Originally based at All Souls Church the society has grown over the years and now performs annually at The Atkinson on Lord Street in Southport having won NODA awards for best pantomime in the North West and in our region

The society currently rehearses at Greenbank High School in Southport and is in urgent need of a room to store its principal costumes.

Chris Watkinson said: “The society has a dedicated wardrobe team who make the majority of the costumes each year.

“Our current room is no longer going to be available due to a change of use of the building it currently occupies.

“We need to find a new home for these costumes before January 2021.

“We have over a hundred and fifty costumes on four costume rails and would ideally like a room where we can again put up these rails that are approximately 9ft 6in long.

“The costumes are a mixture of full length dresses, cloaks, principal boy tunics and dancers costumes.

“Ideally we need to be able to access the building at any time as when we are rehearsing for a show the costume ladies meet both day and evenings to sort costumes.”
