The staff at Broadhursts Bookshop in Southport were excited and intrigued when a very large box from London, marked Fortnum and Mason appeared in the shop last Wednesday morning.  It turned out be a wonderful hamper, a prize for Kate Chesterton who runs the Children’s Department, from Macmillan’s Children’s Books for her Alice in Wonderland window display – judged the best window in the area.  Kate had much enjoyed doing a special display to mark the 150th anniversary of the publication of Alice in Wonderland and aimed to recreate Tenniel’s famous illustration of Alice and the falling cards. This lovely surprise was completely unexpected and much appreciated – a perfect end to a special year of celebration for this favourite, classic book.
