Businesses in Hoghton and London Street take it in turns each day clearing up the empty beer bottles, cans and needles left behind by resort residents from the night before.

Businesses owners have been asking Sefton Council to install CCTV cameras for months now but their wishes have fallen on deaf ears.

A shop owner on Hoghton Street said:

“Rotting food, house hold rubbish and needles are thrown out from the people who live in the flats above.

Another local resident said:

“I have contacted the council on three separate occasions to report this mess and still nothing has been done. What are we paying council tax for?”

A resident living facing the mess said:

“These bins have not been emptied for over three weeks now, it is no wonder there are so many rats around here”
