Air ambulance called to multi-vehicle crash on M6 southbound

One lane is closed and there are long delays due to the multi-vehicle accident at junction 22 for Winwick Link Road, Newton Le Willows.

Congestion is currently back to junction 25 for Bryn and travel time is around 55 minutes.

The entry slip road was fully closed until around 10:15am, lane two has also reopened.

Lane one is closed on the main carriageway.

An air ambulance had landed in nearby field and five fire engines are also at scene.

One casualty was trapped inside a vehicle but was removed and taken to Warrington Hospital in an ambulance.

Their injuries are not thought to be major.

Birchwood Fire Station tweeted: ‘Crew currently dealing with RTC involving 3 large goods vehicles M6 south Croft interchange. Traffic is heavy. Please drive carefully as crews are working on the carriageway.’
