At tonight’s (Thursday 19th November) Council meeting at Southport Town Hall, Ainsdale Lib Dem Councillor Haydn Preece will be calling for improved access to Ainsdale Beach this winter. He will be proposing a motion which calls for speedy interim measures to extend parking provision there. This would allow disabled residents and others better access to the beach through the winter months

Councillor Preece says: “Ainsdale beach is a fantastic leisure resource for both local residents and for those from further afield.  So it’s important that people can park conveniently over the winter months.  I’ve been working hard with Council officers to look at alternative solutions and I’d like to see some early action.”

“Together with colleagues, we’ve looked at the possibility of dropping kerbs to the old caravan site near the beach, creating a free winter car parking area.  We’ve also been pressing the Council to allow winter car parking along one side of Shore Road between the beach and the Sands roundabout.”

“In my motion I’m also calling on the Council to investigate the long term development of ‘Ainsdale on Sea’.  This should include looking at possible external funding sources to develop a visitor centre, other facilities and improved beach car parking.”
