Important improvement works on the A565 South Road/Haigh Road junction are now expected to be complete by the end of September, 2016.
The scheme was planned to be finished by early August, but the project has suffered some delays from external contractors.
Cllr John Fairclough, Cabinet Member Locality Services, said: “Through no fault of our own we are likely to suffer a slight delay with this very important scheme.
“We can only apologise for this and hope residents and drivers understand our position and appreciate the benefits of this project once complete.
“The digital diversion works not being completed have meant we are unable to open Haigh Road or remove the footway diversion which is currently in place diverting pedestrians via the library car park to Park Road then Haigh Road. This should change in the next week or so.
“Throughout the works both Cambrianway and Mouchel Consulting, our main contractors, have worked hard to minimise any delay to the overall programme and we look forward to the new look junction opening soon.”
