On Wednesday 12 October, King George V College welcomed over one thousand visitors to discover the extensive advanced level provision available at the College, during the first Open Evening of the academic year.

Anne-Marie Francis, Acting Principal at KGV, said, “The Open Evening was a great success, the whole College buzzed with excitement. Our current students were a credit to the organisation and I was delighted with the turnout and positive feedback we received.

“Many of the visitors I met commented on the atmosphere of warmth and friendliness, the enthusiasm and knowledge of the teachers, and the confidence they have in the College following our results success this summer.”

The event had an autumnal theme and the College was adorned with pumpkins and pinecones, with visitors receiving free roasted hazelnut lattes, cinnamon spiced donuts and toffee apples.

The theme of the changing season also highlighted the positive changes that have been made at the College over the past two years.

These changes include a new Acting Principal, new board of Governors, new advanced level courses and most recently a new partnership with Southport College.

The proposal for a partnership between the towns two leading Colleges will ensure that an attractive and competitive post 16 curriculum offer is available to all students living in Southport and the surrounding area.

John Clarke, Principal of Southport College, said, “Between the two sites we have a substantial curriculum offering and our vision is to be recognised locally as the first choice for higher level academic and vocational courses.

“This year’s advanced level results place KGV College and Southport College amongst the top performing colleges in the country.

“We believe that with the quality of education and support we offer there should be no reason for students to look outside of the Southport area when considering their post 16 options.”

The Principals of both Southport and King George V College presented this shared vision at Open Evening to a packed theatre of over 150 people. A consultation document outlining the shared vision for the union of the two Colleges and details of the merger process is available to the public and can be accessed online atwww.kgv.ac.uk or www.southport.ac.uk
