A Crime Alert message for the residents and Home Watch members of West Sefton from Merseyside Police.
Theft from Vehicles
Recently there have been a number of thefts from vehicles in the following locations:
FORMBY Rostron Crescent, Elbow Lane, Sutton Road, Barton Heys Road, Three Tuns Lane, Ennerdale Close.
In at least 3 of the above incidents the vehicles had been left insecure and valuable items left on display had been taken.. It is recommended that vehicles are always locked if left unattended, even on your own property, and items are removed from cars leaving nothing on view. The sight of a handbag, purse, wallet or other valuable articles left in a vehicle is a gift to the opportunist thief, particularly if the vehicle has been left unlocked.
Scam
An elderly lady in Crosby had a phone call from an unknown person stating she owed £1000 in tax bills and if she did not pay it she would be taken to court. The caller then ordered the lady to walk to a local Supermarket and buy £500 in iTunes vouchers. The caller then advised that somebody would call round in 30 minutes to collect them.
Luckily an observant member of staff at the Post Office thought something was suspicious and asked the lady why she was withdrawing the £500 cash. The Post office staff have then called the Police.
A warning message was sent out to members in West Sefton a few months ago about this scam happening in your area. Obviously the callers are again targeting Sefton residents. Be aware if you receive a similar phone call.
