A Crime Alert message for the residents of Southport from Merseyside Police.

Burglaries

In the first fortnight of May burglaries took place in the following locations:

Newton Street, Grange Road and Market Street, cash and valuable items were stolen. In one incident the property was left insecure, making the property an easier target for a burglar.

Callers at the door

In Sefton during April and May residents have experienced people calling at their doors purporting to be from the RSPCA and asking to enter houses supposedly to weigh pets as part of a survey that was being carried out by the Association.

In another incident, an elderly gentleman received a visit from a man who said that his son’s kite had gone into the garden and could he try to find it. The resident closed the front door and opened the side door to let the man into the garden. Immediately the caller’s phone rang and he told the householder his son had found his kite. What a coincidence!!

These people often work in pairs, one to distract the householder the other to look for items to steal. They also travel around to different towns, what happens in one part of Sefton today could happen in another area of Sefton tomorrow.

Please be aware of strangers calling at your door and asking to come into or onto your property, they may not be alone.
