A Blooming Lovely Borough

Sefton is the pick of the bunch after scooping a number of awards in the prestigious North West in Bloom and Britain in Bloom competitions.

In the national awards, Southport in Bloom was crowned Overall Winner in the Large Coastal Resort category for the first time since 2002, beating strong competition from across Britain.

Regionally, Maghull in Bloom was awarded Gold in the Large Town Category, while there was also triple Silver Gilt success with Ainsdale, Crosby & Waterloo and Melling in Bloom all announced as winners.

Judges visited various locations across the borough over four days in July to see the excellent efforts made by local Steering Groups, volunteers and various community organisations and were clearly impressed by what was on display.

The groups, who have been supported by Sefton Council and its contractors, were judged on horticultural achievement, along with ‘community involvement’ and ‘environmental responsibility.’

Cllr Ian Moncur, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member Health and Wellbeing, said: “I am absolutely delighted that the efforts of our community groups, volunteers and Steering Groups have been recognised by the judges.

“The various groups and volunteers’ work tirelessly to make our borough sparkle and it is great to see such fantastic partnership working with the Council.

“North West in Bloom also informed us that the 32 entries from Sefton into the Your Neighbourhood competition was higher than any other area, which demonstrates the pride that our residents have for their borough.

“I would like to thank everyone for their efforts this year.”

There was also a number of Sefton based winners in the Your Neighbourhood entries, including Maghull Station Volunteers who won the Best Station in the North West.
