A 24-year-old man arrested for overstaying his visa during Curry Hut immigration raid

A 24-year-old man was arrested by immigration enforcement officers when they raided the Curry Hut,Tulkuth Street, Southport, on Saturday evening 18 July,

A 24-year-old Pakistani man was arrested for overstaying his visa. He is now detained pending his removal from the UK. A second man, aged 29 and from Bangladesh, was found to have no permission to work. He is currently reporting regularly to the Home Office while steps are taken to remove him from the UK so was escorted from the premises but not arrested.

Curry Hut will now be served a notice warning that a financial penalty of up to £20,000 per illegal worker found could be imposed, unless evidence is provided that legally required pre-employment checks were carried out, such as seeing a passport or Home Office document. This is a potential total penalty of £40,000.
