Appeal following attempted robbery in Skelmersdale
DETECTIVES are appealing for information after a 91 year old man was the victim of an attempted robbery in Skelmersdale.
The robbery happened between 2.45pm and 3.15pm yesterday (Wednesday 4 March) when the victim was locking up a garage on Evenwood. He was approached from behind by two men, one who forcefully restrained him to enable the second man to search through his pockets. One of the men then forced him to the floor using his head and rubbed his face into the gravel.
They then fled the scene empty handed, leaving the man on the floor with wounds to his head, leg and wrist.
Both men are described as white, stocky build, one over 6ft and one between 5ft 6in and 5ft 8in. Both had short dark hair and were of a scruffy appearance and both spoke with a Liverpool accent. The taller man was wearing a grey jumper.
DC Kate Finch of Skelmersdale CID said: “This is a particularly upsetting incident where an elderly war veteran has been the victim of a cowardly and vicious attack which has left him with nasty injuries. Enquiries are on-going to identify those responsible however I would urge anyone with any information about what happened to contact us. It is important that these people are brought to justice to prevent them targeting anybody else.”
