A good way to do this?

Create a low-maintenance garden.

Enhance your outdoor space with beautiful window box planters from Flower Window Boxes.

Make 2023 your year with a great looking outdoor space. Somewhere you can relax and unwind without sacrificing time on maintenance – freeing you up to work on those other New Year promises!

And it’s easier than you think. You’re only 6 steps away…

1.    Ditch the grass

Green-fingered or not, cutting the grass is a time-consuming task – especially during the summer months. But just because you have a garden, there’s no rule that says you have to have grass.

How about switching to composite decking instead? Or if you like the look of grass – you’re just not a fan of all the hassle that comes with it – then how about faking things?

Artificial grass gives you all the benefits of a lawn just without the upkeep – or the need to house a lawnmower!

2.    Keep it simple

If you do stick with a lawn, don’t overcomplicate things.

Fancy edges, garden paths and undulating borders might look impressive, but they’ll soon lose their charm when you’re trying to negotiate them with the lawn mower. Straight angles and simple shaping will make the job of cutting the grass as quick and easy as possible.

It’s also a good idea to create a solid edge. Small stones or bricks will keep sides in place and reduce the need for additional trimming.

3.    Patio

If keeping on top of the grass is a problem, that’s nothing compared to the chore of tackling weed growth between paving stones.

Not only do weeds look unsightly, but they also dislodge grout as they push their way through – creating yet another job for your ‘to-do’ list.

Banish the patio and banish the problem.

4.    Easy does it

If you want your garden to look good but not demand too much in the way of time or money, then it pays to keep planting simple.

Opt for plants that offer year-round colour and foliage to avoid the need to plant repeatedly throughout the year.

Avoid delicate shrubs that are tricky to care for as they will just leave you frustrated and out of pocket.

Ground cover plants are great for covering over soil – they also work a treat at fending off weeds, as their tight-knit growth prevents them from poking through.

5.    Harness the power of technology

We use technology to boost efficiency in all other walks of life so why not in the garden?

Operate sprinklers, outside lighting, and even your lawnmower from your phone and make garden maintenance easy and more efficient.

6.    Get clever with composite

Wooden decking is great, but when it comes to keeping things easy, it’s not a patch on composite.

Place wooden and composite decking boards side by side and you’d probably struggle to tell the difference, but that’s where the similarities end. Whilst composite offers all the appeal of traditional timber, it massively outstrips wooden boards on the maintenance front.

Pre-coloured, there is no need for painting (unlike wooden boards which will need to be painted every 12 months). Highly durable, long-lasting, and resistant to rot, they demand little in terms of time and money.

And it’s not just a one-trick pony. You can also use composite for garden fencing, seating, planters, player areas, the list goes on…yet your chores list goes down!

Order composite decking today and get your garden – and resolutions – off to a great start.
