30-year-old woman arrested after deactivated machine gun found in Crossens

A 30-year-old woman has been arrested in Southport on suspicion of possession of firearm offences after a deactivated machine gun was found in Crossens.

At around 12.30 pm yesterday, Wednesday 1st September, officers executed a warrant at an address in Wheatfield Close in Netherley.

During the search, a loaded silver revolver was recovered.  A 28-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm.

Following further enquiries and just after 7.30 pm last night a second warrant was executed at a property on The Causeway in Southport.

During a search of the property a deactivated Mach 10 Machine gun, component ammunition parts were located and have been forensically recovered.

A 30-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of possession of firearm offences.

Both the man and women are in custody and enquiries are being carried out by the Firearms Investigation Team.

Detective Inspector John Fitzgerald said: “We remain determined to remove dangerous weapons from our streets as we know they can be used to cause fear and harm and devastate our communities.

“Both of these weapons have been forensically recovered and enquiries remain ongoing.

“Information about where weapons are being stored is vital to the work we do to protect our communities.

“If you have any concerns about any weapons, drugs or other illegal items being stored, carried or used, come forward directly or anonymously. We’ll use all available powers and working with partners to make our communities safer places to live, work and visit.”
