Revealed figures show more than £24million of National Lottery funding has been invested in Southport since the National Lottery began almost 25 years ago.

National Lottery say the “lives of ordinary people have been trans- formed” in the area over the past quarter of a century.
More than 400 National Lottery grants have been awarded locally since 1994, which they say has helped to strengthen communities.

A wide variety of projects in the town have received National Lottery funding, with the largest of these being a £4.3million fund awarded to Southport’s King’s Gardens in 2009.

The first ever National Lottery grant in the area was the £3,100 awarded to the Samaritans in Southport to improve their service to callers.

The majority of National Lottery grants are for less than £10,000. One example of this was the £593 awarded to St John’s Church of England Primary School on Rufford Road for a basketball initiative in 2000.
