We only live about 40 minutes drive from Martin Mere and have managed about 4 or 5 visits already this year. There is plenty to see and do at Martin Mere. We aren’t birdwatchers as such but enjoy watching both the birds in the “captive areas” and the wild areas. We are also trying to improve our photographic skills! There is always some activities going on, lots of interesting talks, We have listened to talks on the swans, otters and the general site. On the last visit we went on one of the Duckling days and went to a very informative talk and demonstration of candling eggs and also visited the duck nursery. The site appeals to a wide range of people. Its very popular with birdwatchers and you see lots of families. There is a very good play area near the entrance and in summer there are boat trips and canoe safaris. There is a large café with nice decking area overlooking one of the lakes. The food in the café is good but the choice could be better for us (more fish and vege choices). If you are in the area it is well worth a visit and it is easy to spend a few hours here. If you live near by the annual membership is very good value. June 2013: Thoroughly enjoyed a bank holiday Sunday here. It was lovely to be able to walk through the park and spot the different varieties of ducks, geese and other birds. The otters were enchanting as they played and chased each other. Then watching wild birds from the hides was truly wonderful – particularly a heron that was hunting. There are excellent facilities – plenty of toilets; refreshment areas and play areas for children. There are boats to hire at a reasonable cost so there really is plenty to do for a whole day there.
