A special screening of the film Gorky Park is being shown at The Atkinson, Southport as part of the World Book Night celebrations.

World Book Night is an annual celebration of reading and books, which this year sees passionate volunteers gift books in their communities to share their love of reading. It is celebrated on April 23 in the UK, Ireland and the USA and run by The Reading Agency.

As part of the local World Book Night celebrations, a screening of Gorky Park – one of this years’ 20 selected books – will take place at The Atkinson, Southport on Wednesday April 23, at 5.30pm.

A book gifting event will take place after the screening, using books freely supplied by the World Book Night Organisation.

Tickets are £3 each and are available at all Sefton libraries – a discount is available for groups of 10 or more. The film has a 15+ certificate.

Gorky Park is an icon of Cold War thrillers written by Martin Cruz Smith with Arkady Renko a hugely enjoyable and very flawed hero as he bucks against the party line. The film version, made in 1983, stars William Hurt, Lee Marvin and Joanna Pacula.
