Woman arrested after alleged assault leaves another with severe facial injuries

A Southport woman has been arrested on suspicion of assault following an incident in the town on Thursday night. 

In the early hours of Friday morning, around 1am, a 26-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted at an address in Garstang Road during an argument at a party between two women.

The woman is believed to have been bitten on the cheek, sustaining injuries which required plastic surgery at Whiston Hospital.

Following an investigation by police, a 29-year-old woman from Southport was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of assault.

She remains in custody at the time of writing (11.50am on Monday, 29 February) and further enquiries are ongoing.
