The past 5 have featured some epic clashes with some of the very best Muay Thai talent not only across the country but Europe too. EFC I certainly brought the action from the off with electrifying atmosphere none more so than during Elites Didzis Musulis’ stoppage win over local boy Liam Reilly. Those who witnessed EFC II will remember the devastating knockout delivered by Southport’s Stu Abram after just 32 seconds of his collision with fellow Crusierweight Carlos Tate. EFC III saw England v Germany and Kevin Ward capture the Goldenbelt European Title from multiple title holder Steffan Dieterelle after a convincing points win using brutal elbows to slice open the Germans eye. An exciting clash at EFC IV showcased a back and forth domestic battle as Elite Southport’s Jake Barton successfully defended his British Title against Stoke fighter Steve Jones via unanimous decision. Barton returned to EFC V to knock out 2x Spanish Champion Julio Sanchez in the opening round. This one however, is the biggest of them all. For the first time in 12 years a World Title fight will be hosted in Southport’s Prince of Wales as Kevin Ward of Elite Southport challenges Irishman Mark Casserley for Cassleys ISKA Championship of the World. A belt which holds great prestige, Casserly won the title in summer 2012 with a spectacular head kick knockout of former UFC star, American Marcus Davies. Ward and Casserly are no strangers to one another as the pair met in May 2011 back at EFC II but fought a very tactical bout resulting in a draw. This time, with the slight change to the Ruleset and with the added glory of being a World Champion expect the two men to bring everything to the table, as this time there will be only one winner as the pair meet to settle their unfinished business. Coming into the fight Ward has momentum on his side fresh from a win over Peter Irving at London’s O2 arena. Ward making the ever game Irving look average landing clever punch combinations finishing with trademark knees. This will be the first time Ward has fought in his hometown in over a year and expecting the Southport crowd to be right behind him in his World Title Bid. During his hometown absence Ward has fought in Germany with a great win as main event of the show and Sweden in late 2012 gaining valuable international experience. Coaches Phil Barton and Andy Brocklebank have stated they believe this to be Wards best opportunity to capture the ISKA World Title as he is on top of his game right now and at the very peak of his fitness. Casserley on the other hand has been quiet since he won his Title in July 2012, and this will be his first appearance since that win. With it edging ever closer and the World Championship hanging in the balance there can only be one winner and the Elite Gym in Southport ask you to come and get behind your hometown fighter. An undercard stacked full of talent features a grudge match between Jake Barton and Craig Jones, a chance for Barton to progress in the British Rankings and for Jones to prove he belongs in the top ten. British Champion Barton v English Champion Jones promises to get the crowd on their feet. Didzis Musulis faces a tough test against Danny Ledbetter who’s fresh of a win against Gavin Rogerson. A great opportunity for Musulis to prove his up there with the best in the division, this contest to be fought under B Class rules.
