Galloway’s Society for the blind provides advice, equipment and activities for blind and partially sighted individuals to enable them to regain their independence and reduce the effects of visual impairment. However, none of this could be possible without the support of the local community and dedicated volunteers.

Over the past few months big changes have been happening at Galloway’s. One of which has been to appoint a new staff fundraiser to their centre in Southport. Emma Wilson the new fundraiser appointed to this position will be in charge of fundraising throughout the entire Sefton area, as well as Ormskirk and Skelmersdale.

Since the Southport centre opened its doors two years ago there has been little fundraising presence in the area. The newly appointed full time fundraiser will be working in the community to develop their existing support and promote community awareness.

Emma said “I have got a lot of big ideas and cannot wait to get started, but I am currently looking for some enthusiastic volunteers to help me make my ideas a reality”

As a volunteer in the past, Emma discussed the benefits of working with a charity. “Of course volunteering looks good on your CV but it is also a lot of fun, you become part of a team and meet some really inspirational people”

The charity are currently looking for volunteers to help with the organisation and hosting of events, collections in Southport and Ormskirk, as well as thinking up creative new fundraising initiatives, as fundraising at the centre continues to grow.
