Yet again The London Bowling Club Windsor Road Southport is facing a crisis

The London pub & Bowling Green has been purchased by One Vision Housing, at the last planning meeting it was agreed to allow building of 8 houses and the bowling green was to be retained as it is a community asset, this green has been on this site since 1866 & the club as it is now was formed over 90 years ago and still has six teams playing in the various leagues, from veterans, through to playing in the Burscough League.

This years the ladies team won the ladies league, and one of the men’s team won the main trophy in the LV League.

One of the stipulations was that the builders, as part of the planning agreed for the 8 houses, was section 106 the builders had to agree to provide, water, toilet & electricity, the club has maintained the floodlights and replaced them at their own cost and have since the end of this season spent a considerate amount of money on the bowling green, preparing it for the new season.

The club hope that One Vision Housing, which says it works with the community has second thoughts on applying for permission to build on the green.

Up to date the club have had brilliant support from John Pugh & Cll Dawson.

The green is a community Green, which is used constantly throughout the year. The club had no prior notice of closure and the green is the last green space available in the area.ots-southport-london-bowling club
