Vandals destroy historic Southport railings at King’s Gardens

The damage is expected to cost thousands to repair

Vandals have caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to balustrades and lamppost at King’s Gardens in Southport on Saturday evening (10th September).

Merseyside Police has been informed of the incident and council staff have now made the area safe (Sunday 11th) and looking into how to repair the damage.

A Sefton Council spokesman told OTSNews.co.uk : “Sadly vandals have caused extensive damage to the balustrades near the play area causing thousands of pounds of unnecessary damage.

“Not only is this extremely disappointing for us, it ruins it for genuine park users and we hope the public feel our frustration over this stupid act of destruction.

“We are working closely with Merseyside Police to address this and we will be assisting them in their investigations.

If anyone does have any information, please contact Merseyside Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
