UPDATED Witness appeal RTC M57 August 14th, 2014 admin Latest News Shares Comments UPDATE Witness appeal RTC M57 Merseyside Police is appealing for witnesses following an injury road traffic collision on the M57 earlier this morning (Thursday, 14 August) Patrols were called at about 6.15am following reports that a car driving southbound had left the carriageway and driven down the embankment between junctions one and two. There were two people in the vehicle. Emergency services are currently in attendance. Officers are at the scene carrying out a full investigation into the incident to determine the full circumstances of what happened. Motorists are advised to avoid the area at this time as the M57 is closed between junctions one and two southbound, with diversions in place. Collision investigators are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, and anyone with information is asked to call Merseyside Police on 0151 777 5747 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111. Update – 10.30am 14.08.14 Merseyside Police can confirm that following a road traffic collision on the M57 earlier today, a 33-year-old local man has died. Emergency services attended at the scene and the man was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The man’s next of kin have been informed but formal identification has yet to take place. A family liaison officer is with the family to support them at this time. The front seat passenger, a 29-year-old man, has been taken to hospital with serious injuries, but they are not believed to be life threatening at this time. Officers remain at the scene whilst collision investigators carry out examinations of the area. The M57 remains closed at this time between junctions two and one southbound with diversions in place.
