Two men arrested on suspicion of GBH after Southport Hotel attack

Merseyside Police can confirm two men have been arrested following a report of an assault inside a hotel in Southport in the early hours of today (Wednesday, 13 July).

At about 1.50am, officers were called to the Royal Clifton Hotel on the Promenade to a report that a man had been assaulted.

It was reported that some people involved may have left the scene in a Transit van.

Officer attended the hotel and a short pursuit of the vehicle followed.

Three males left the van on foot on Lathom Road and a foot pursuit followed.

A 19-year-old man and a 27-year-old man, both from Southport, were arrested on suspicion of Section 18 Wounding. They have been taken to a police station in Merseyside to be interviewed.

A full investigation has now been launched. CCTV opportunities are being explored and the scene is being forensically examined. Room to room enquiries are being carried out at the hotel.
