Two arrested on suspicion of theft after power tools were taken from a van in Ainsdale

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of thefts from motor vehicles after a member of the public witnessed power tools being taken from a van in Ainsdale.

At 2.15pm on Tuesday 12 April the police were contacted and given the registration number of a car which had been seen driving away from the area where the theft had taken place.

A short time later officers from the Merseyside Police Roads Policing Unit stopped the vehicle in Aigburth.

Two men aged 48 and 45 and from the Merseyside area, were arrested on suspicion of theft from motor vehicles, and have been bailed pending further enquiries.

A quantity of power tools have also been recovered.

Neighbourhood Inspector Jim Atherton said: “We ask that people report suspicious activity to us in real time. This just shows the importance in doing so. On this occasion, I am pleased to say it led the recovery of stolen property in another part of Merseyside.”

Anyone who witnesses a crime in progress is asked to call Merseyside Police on 999. Alternatively call the non-emergency 101 number or call the confidential Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
