Turn the tide on rubbish

Southport’s ‘Rubbish Friends’ are gearing up for a big Autumn clean with the anti-litter army fixing their sights on the area by the former sandwinning plant at Marshside.

Cambridge Ward Lib Dem Councillors Sue McGuire and Pat Keith are calling on litter heroes who love their beach to join them for the season’s final clean at the site on Saturday, October 12 at 10.30 am.

“We are hoping for a repeat of the successful operation we had in July,” said Cllr. Mcguire. “The public turned out in force to back the Lib Dem – organised lake clean up and as a result we were able to fill 80 bags of rubbish in less than two hours.”

Her colleague, Cllr. Keith, said: “Southport has so many beautiful places and it’s disheartening to see some of them clogged with litter and rubbish. That’s why everyone backs our clean-up campaign 100%.”
