Too Friendly Theatre Company Ladies’ Day by Amanda Whittington August 18th, 2013 admin Latest News Latest Whats On Shares Comments The long-standing group is to perform Ladies’ Day by Amanda Whittington, famous for Tipping the Velvet and Be My Baby. The story follows four fish factory friends, Jan, Shelley, Linda and Pearl, as they celebrate Pearl’s “not retirement”. Pearl’s dream is to attend Royal Ascot and when it arrives in York, the girls have no excuse not to go. So, out go the hairnets and overalls and on go the big hats, high shoes and party dresses as the fabulous four go on a romp to the races. However, drinking, flirting and a quick flutter are not the only things that confront the ladies on their day at the races. As the day progresses, so do revelations of romance, family friction and ardent affairs. Not to mention a host of mischievous men who, at various moments seek to seduce, swindle and suck-up to the ladies. Chloe Hughes, who plays loud-mouthed Shelley in her first play with the Too Friendly, believes Ladies’ Day has something for everyone. “Although it is a comedy and the characters are larger than life, their problems and friendships are common to us all.” Similarly, director Cliff Gillies suggests that the play is “for anyone who has ever loved, lost, lamented or laughed.” With an excellent reputation and renowned for their high standards, the Too Friendly’ plays have, over the years, been described as “absorbing”, “moving” and “hilarious”. There is no doubt that Whittington’s Ladies’ Day will be all three. Therefore, put the dates, September 25-28th in your diary and race along to Ormskirk Civic Hall for a night (and Ladies’ Day) to remember! Tickets are £7 and available from 01704 541306.
