Three month reprieve for Southport Home Care Clients

Home Care clients receiving service from Mears Care under the Direct Payments Scheme have received a three month ‘reprieve’ after local Lib Dem Care spokesperson Councillor Tony Dawson exposed them being ‘dropped in it’ at short notice.

“Clients with complicated care needs need far more than a few weeks to get a decent replacement care scheme into place,” says Councillor Dawson. “That was why I took the matter up urgently with the Director of Social Services.”

“I have been informed today that Mears have apologised to Direct Payments clients and are now extending their care contracts until the firm withdraws completely from Southport in January.

“I am raising with the Council’s Adult Care Scrutiny Committee this week the issue of how the services which Mear Care presently provide to scores of Southport residents will be catered for from January.”

Mears Care presently provides the Sefton Council Home Care Service on contract for residents living in the Birkdale, Kew, Norwood and Meols wards of Southport. Other wards receive this care from Delta Care.
