Seven horses escape from travelling circus Southport

The travelling circus was marred last night when three horses escaped as the result of a stampede.

About seven horses escaped from the travelling circus near Southport Fairground at about 9:00pm last night (Easter Sunday 31st March 2013) during a show.

The horses were frightened by the ring masters whip and suddenly bolted out of the circus ring down Nevil Street then onto Lord Street with the ring master in pursue.

The horses were eventually rounded up in Wayfarers Arcade alongside the Red Rum statue.

A circus spokesperson said the lead horse “experienced an unpleasant event, the nature of which is undetermined at this time.”

Southport town centre was cordoned off for two hours. One woman was treated for shock. There were no other injuries involved.
