The Southport Party Candidates May Election 2014 March 4th, 2014 admin Latest News Latest Notices Shares Comments MEOLS WARD – Margaret Brown Sefton’s new 100% Labour cabinet has seemingly forgotten that Southport exists. So, on the 18th March 2013 Margaret Brown, Chair of The Southport Party, called a special meeting at the Royal Clifton Hotel inviting two representatives from each of the local political parties to attend. Party politics were put aside and the group worked together and sent letters requesting a review of Southport’s position within the Borough of Sefton to Eric Pickles MP, the Prime Minister and the Local Boundary Commission. A question was asked by Margaret Brown at the Southport Local Area Committee regarding what support the local elected members had for this approach, to which they gave unanimous support and said a letter would be also sent by them. We now await the reply from the Government. DUKES WARD – Harry Forster The exodus of Council Departments continues relentlessly, destroying many hundreds of jobs in Southport and making previously easily accessible services into remote miscreations. Today the Labour Party dominates over Southport from their impregnable Bootle stronghold leaving Southport people with virtually no control over what happens in our very own town. And it’s going to get even worse when the new “Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, St Helens, Sefton and Wirral Combined Authority” starts up on 1st April 2014! NORWOOD WARD – Jacqueline BARLOW JP WHY ME?: Because I am passionate about Southport and right now our OUR TOWN has little control over its own affairs with much power having been being moved to an overall Liverpool City Region and now even a combined authority HOW CAN THAT BE RIGHT FOR OUR TOWN?
