The Salvation Army are coming to Chapel Street for Christmas

The Salvation Army are coming to Chapel Street for Christmas. It is a tradition which has spanned an impressive fifty years in the town.

A spokesperson for the Salvation Army said: “Each Saturday (3, 10, 17), between 10am and 2pm, the band will be at the junction of Chapel Street and Tulketh Street playing non-stop carols, including those requested by Christmas shoppers.

“We will of course also be collecting for our Christmas Appeal and we know that Southport shoppers want to give generously to the work of the Salvation Army in our community.

“The assistance that we give in financial terms and gifts of furniture and clothing has grown in recent years.

“The biggest growth in the last 18 months has been in Fuel Aid where we provide emergency aid to assist families and individuals with fuel bills.

“This is funded by gifts from the public as well as our other work which includes assisting other agencies including the Southport Soup Kitchen and the Trussell Trust Foodbank.

“So during the next thee Saturdays look out for the Salvation Army band as you dash around the shops and pause for a while just to remember what Christmas is all about – and don’t be afraid to ask the band to play your favourite carol!”
