Eco friendly pupils

The hunt is on for environmentally conscious young people from across Sefton.

Now in its sixth year, the Sefton Eco Champion event recognises individuals who go the extra mile to protect the environment.

Judges from the Southport Eco Centre are looking for pupils who care for their environment at school or within their community.

Any adults can make a nomination, including parents, teachers, teaching assistants, or scout and brownie leaders. This can be just a short testimonial including photographs of their specific project.   Shortlisted applicants will attend a special daytime ceremony on Tuesday, June 18, at The Ramada Plaza Hotel who are kind sponsors of the event.

Cllr Trish Hardy, Sefton’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Environment, said: “The Sefton Eco Champions event is a great way to recognise young people who make that extra effort to help the environment and set a good example to others.

“Applicants might be in charge of the school’s organic vegetable patch, lead the fight against energy and water waste or encourage others to travel by bike to school.   “The celebrations are always enjoyed by all and make everyone feel proud of the work our fantastic young ‘unsung hero’ residents are doing to make a big difference.

“If anyone knows a candidate who might fit the bill, our teachers at the Southport Eco Centre would love to hear about them.”   Application information has been sent to all schools and entries can be made online. The closing date is April 27. For more information, call Darren or Julie on 0151 934 2728.
