The swans who are now nicknamed Harry & Larry, took up residence close to the runway last week (Mon 14th Jan 2013) and have been on site ever since. It is known that swans “pose a significant risk of bird-strike” which could cause “a serious threat to aircraft, and the local area.” Bird strikes is one of the most common causes of air accidents, and have been blamed for a number of emergency landings in recent years.
