Merseyside Police have welcomed the custodial sentence given to a 17 year-old who admitted wounding with intent and possession of a knife following a stabbing in Formby.

William Cowley, 17, from Gardner Road, Formby, was sentenced to five year’s detention with an extended three years on licence at Liverpool Crown Court following the incident in an alleyway off Brows Lane on May 22 this year.

Inspector Jim Atherton said: “I would like to thank everyone involved in this investigation. It was brought to a speedy conclusion and resulted in a significant sentence.

“Merseyside Police will not tolerate this kind of behaviour on our streets and I want to reassure members of the public that we will do everything in our powers to bring these people to justice.”
