Star performances at KGV Southport May 22nd, 2014 admin Latest News Shares Comments Star performances at KGV The month of May saw two entertaining and inspiring evenings in KGV’s Drama Hall, both courtesy of BTEC Performing Arts students. 1st year students completed their ‘Performing to an Audience’ unit through their presentation of an original devised piece of work entitled 9 To 5. Taking inspiration from Feminist theatre and contemporary culture, the group explored a number of issues that are prevalent in today’s society such as discrimination in the workplace, oppression, thwarted ambition, sexism, sexuality, the environment and domestic violence to name but a few. 2nd year students developed an evening entitled ‘What if life were more like theatre’, based around a wide range of shows including Joseph, A Chorus Line, The Lion King and We Will Rock You. The programme was designed and arranged by the students with everyone having input into both the form and content. This was the first ever evening based around ‘Musical Theatre’ and was a culmination of two years’ work for all the students involved. Both evenings were supported by staff and fellow students in terms of lighting, media presentations and a live band, and the use of acting, dance, movement, music and singing skills created a thought-provoking and enjoyable evening’s entertainment for the packed audiences of parents, friends and relatives.
