St. Mary’s Celebrate excellent GCSE Results ots-st marys-gcse

Students and staff at St. Mary’s College in Crosby are celebrating another excellent set of GCSE results this year.

As in previous years, the outstanding feature of this summer’s performances is the large number of pupils who have achieved multiple passes at the highest grades.

A fifth of candidates achieved ten or more A* or A grades and well over a third (39 per cent) achieved seven or more passes at the highest grades.

Overall, almost half of all the GCSE passes at St. Mary’s this year were at the two highest grades.

The school also recorded a rise – to 94 per cent – in the number of students achieving five A*-C grades, including English and Maths.

In terms of individual performances, the outstanding trio were Sam Bennett, Sophie James and Lily McGuire who achieved a staggering 34 A* and A grades between them, 25 of which were at the highest level.

However, of these pupils it was Lily who proved herself to be top of the class with an impressive ten A* grades plus an A and a B.

Lily, from Southport, commented: “I’m ecstatic about my results – I still can’t believe it. On my way to school I was saying to myself As and Bs will be fine, but when I opened the envelope and saw my grades I was speechless.

“I never thought I had it in me but my teachers here at St. Mary’s changed all that. I am really grateful for their support and that all my efforts have paid off.”

Lily, who also attended St. Mary’s Preparatory School, will join the Sixth Form at St. Mary’s next month where she plans to study Mathematics, Chemistry, History and Music. Looking further ahead, she is considering philosophy, politics or economics as her university subject.

St. Mary’s College Principal, Mike Kennedy, commented: “I am delighted with these results which are a testament both to the hard work of our pupils, and the support they have received from staff and parents throughout their time at the school.

“The high percentage of passes at A* or A grade is particularly pleasing, and shows that our students have the academic strength in depth to do well in future at A-level, at university and in their chosen careers.

“All our students and their families should be very proud of what they have achieved, and I am sure they will be celebrating their many successes over the next few days,” added Mr Kennedy.
