St. John’s C.E. Primary School Crossens Footballers Remember

Paul Comstive

To St. John’s C.E. Primary School Footballers – Past and Present

Dear Friends,

I know you will all share the shock and sorrow that so many people are experiencing at the passing of Paul on 29th December.

I was delighted (but not surprised) to see and to read the wonderful tributes that have been paid to Paul by his former professional clubs  and by his many friends and colleagues.

There is, however, one area of Paul’s footballing and personal legacy that also needs to be celebrated and commemorated – his role as coach to numerous football teams at St. John’s C.E. Primary School.

I hope you will agree with me that Paul’s role at St. John’s needs to be marked and that the many players who have benefitted from his coaching and from knowing him should gather together to reflect and share their happy memories of Paul.

With the help of Jill, Lauren and Eilish Comstive, I am arranging for as many St. John’s footballers (past and present) as possible to walk from Crossens to Haig Avenue and back on Sunday 19th January – it would be great if you could join us!

For this event to truly do Paul justice we need this message to reach as many players as possible so please share it with anyone you are in touch with who played football for the school and was coached by Paul (this obviously includes their families.)

The details are:

Meet:         In the car park of St. John’s C.E. Primary School ready to set off at 12 noon on Sunday 19th January

Route:       Rufford Road – Marine Drive – Marine Parade – Marine Way Bridge – Promenade – Nevill Street – Lord Street – Eastbank Street – Scarisbrick New Road – Haig Avenue – Meols Cop Road – Norwood Road – Norwood Avenue – Roe Lane – Mill Lane – Botanic Road – Churchtown Village – Bankfield Lane – Rufford Road

Distance: Approximately 10 miles so likely to take approximately 2.5 – 3 hours depending on your fitness!

Refreshments: Bring your own!

Supervision: Younger children will need to be accompanied by a parent/carer/adult

It may be that different groups of walkers go at different speeds – this is fine.

Others may wish to join us for a section of the route.

I am delighted to announce that Paul’s family are hoping to take part.

The intention is to celebrate Paul’s huge contribution to football at

St. John’s School.

Walkers may choose to make a donation to a fund that Jill wants to use to purchase  football-themed gift to the school in Paul’s memory (such as a trophy.)

If you are able to join us please let me know on:

[email protected]

or via Facebook

I look forward to meeting up with you again

Daniel Hains (Headteacher at St. John’s 2002 – 2011)
