Southport’s top 2 pool teams The Regs and Dodd’s Devils made the 560 mile round trip to The Vauxhall Holiday Park in Great Yarmouth over the weekend to compete in the 2014 Champion of Champions event.

191 of the best teams in the country started out the event with 96 qualifying through to Great Yarmouth. Dodds Devil’s from the Les Dodd Snooker Centre opened up with a great 11-3 win then overcame a tense final frame to qualify through to the last 32 stage where unfortunately after a great match they fell just short after losing a 3 man play off.

The Regs comfortably topped there group with 2 easy wins and progressed through to the last 32 where they met a team from Croydon, an easy 8-2 win ensured a place in Sunday mornings last 16 where they knew a very tough match awaited them against Normans Snooker from Rochdale who were the 2012 & 2013 runners up.

The match was streamed live on the internet and The Regs all brought there ‘A’ game to the camera tables and deservedly cemented a quarter final spot with a great 8-6 win.

Rileys Bangers from up the road in Norwich were the last 8 opponents and once again the team were in sublime form and ran out 8-4 winners. The semi final was played over 3 tables and after going 2-1 up on there opponents from Cannock the match soon turned around and the dream final spot faded away and the match was lost 8-4.

Both teams had a great weekend and hope to qualify for next years event.
