The Marine Way Bridge in Southport is set to be closed for up to two weeks.

The busy highway, which connects Southport’s Promenade and town centre with Ocean Plaza and Southport Beach as it crosses the Marine Lake, is due to close tomorrow (Tuesday, September 1). Motorists using the town centre warned to expect possible delays.

The bridge will be shut because Sefton Council will be carrying out an inspection.

Officers say that in order to carry out the work, a section of Marine Parade will be closed from Tuesday September 1 for up to two weeks.

Marine Parade will be closed to traffic and pedestrians between the Promenade and the roundabout by McDonald’s.

Traffic will be diverted via the Promenade, Fairway and Marine Drive in both directions.

Pedestrians will be able to use Southport Pier to cross Marine Lake.

Access for emergency services will be maintained wherever possible.

The works will be suspended on September 12/13 for the annual Southport 24 Hour Yacht Race.

While the bridge is shut, people who use the many businesses at Ocean Plaza are being asked to use other routes to get there.
