Heat two of Southport’s Got Talent took place at the Victoria this week and again the audience was wowed with the standard of talent especially the high number of dancers featured in this heat. It was fortunate then that the three Judges for this heat included a dancer, West end star Ryan Collinson who was really visibly impressed by what he saw on the night

Ryan was assisted Sarah Cartier of Seftons Councils Tourism Department and Sky TV’s John Cooper and they contributed to a really great night

The show opened with guest dancer 9 year old Paisley Fox whose contemporary routine was simply sensational and set a high standard for the night

All the contestants were fantastic the talented and lovely Sheila Jay;  performer and dancer Jenny Rothwell and hardstyle dancer ‘Pulse’ Dominic Ellis. Guest artits included top singing talents Doug Coleman and Hayley Murray

Hoever, second place or ‘Wild card’ went to Southport Dance teacher Andy Hooper who entered this heat at the last minute following a cancellation due to illness. Andy performed an excellent dance piece to music inspired by Janet Jackson and it was clear after this performance that the Judges would have a difficult decision to make

Despite the stiff competition from the dance contestants, it was 16 year old female vocalist Yasmeen Ali from Liverpool won the heat singing two wonderful songs Aretha Franklins Say a little prayer and Michael Jackson’s I’ll be there

It was Yasmeen’s first time entering the Visiter backed show which started in 2009 and she described it as ‘the best organised competition she’s ever entered’

People are invited to show off their skills whether it’s singing, dancing, telling jokes or anything that will entertain an audience.

The show’s Neil Newton said the best way to get involved is to search for Southport’s Got Talent 2012 on Facebook or pick up an application form from the Visiter reception on Tulketh Street, The Victoria Pub or from Mojo’s hair and beauty bar on Duke Street.

As well as winning the first prize of £1,000 the winner will appear in this year Christmas lights switch on

The event has been sponsored by the Victoria Pub Tel 01704 544121 who’s message to local people is:  “Come and enjoy a great night out and see some stars of the future on Wednesday night. It really is a great contest” !

The Victoria is a great venue with its grand balcony which makes a great viewing area, and the show commences at 8pm on Wednesdays, entry is free and food is available
