Southport Xmas Parking pressure pays off November 15th, 2013 admin Latest News Shares Comments Pressure from local councillors and traders to have parking charge concessions to help the Southport Town Centre Christmas has paid off. Liberal Democrat Councillor Tony Dawson, who represents the Southport town centre, welcomed news that there would be concessions made this year. Parking will be free throughout the Borough on each Saturday between 7th December and Christmas and from 3 pm onwards on Thursday evenings during the same Xmas shopping period. He said: “Last year, with the Council suddenly being run by Bootle councillors for the first time, Sefton missed a trick. This year, the traders and the town’s councillors got their requests for help in early and they have been responded to.” “This may, however, be the ‘calm before the storm’. The council’s Parking Review proposals have been put off for the second time, till mid January. The Labour Party’s budget requires Parking in the borough to generate an extra half a million pounds and it is difficult to envisage the proposals, when they finally come through, as being other than bad news for Southport.” Submit News Contact us with your community, business or sport news.
