On Sunday 11th September Bethan, Kerry and Leonie will all be taking part in the Great North Run, which is 13.1 miles.

They said:”We have chosen to run for Alzheimer’s Society which is a charity close to all of our hearts with us all having personally experienced a loved one suffering with this cruel illness.”

Bethan’s story –  “I decided at the beginning of the year that I wanted to set myself a challenge, that took me out of my comfort zone, and pushed my fitness, although never in a million years, did I imagine that a coffee, cake and a catch up would lead to me agreeing to running 13.1 miles ! I’ve never run more than 5k (and it’s been about 20yrs since I did that !), so this is going to be a massive challenge for me, but knowing that by doing this we will be helping to raise money for such a worthy cause, is motivation enough for me to get my running shoes on !”

Leonie’s story – “I was in blissful ignorance as to what an Alzheimers diagnosis meant until my Dad was diagnosed with this illness 9 years ago. It has been incredibly difficult watching someone I love deteriorating through this illness and to have the knowledge there is no cure. Over the last few years we have sadly had to fight to ensure that my Dad receives the level of care he needs. I am running for Alzehimers society in the hope that anyone who has to go through this journey has the support and care that they need.”

Kerry’s story – “Every year I like to set myself a challenge. This year I decided to take part in a half marathon.  Alzheimer’s is an illness I have had personal experience of as my nana was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s three years ago. Until then I had not realised the effect this illness can have. Although the training is tough, the opportunity to raise money for such a worthwhile cause keeps me focussed. Please donate – it will make a difference.”

So far we have raised £1,543.79 despite are target of £1,500.00, you can still donate towards this fantastic charity here.
