Southport Soup Kitchen – Planning application submitted to Sefton Council April 17th, 2013 admin Latest News Shares Comments Southport Soup Kitchen – planning application submitted to Sefton Council Southport Soup Kitchen volunteer Justin Dempster will be appearing at Sefton Council Planning Department on Wednesday 24th April 2013 to put forward a case for the extra opening hours of the Soup Kitchen on London Street, Southport, Merseyside. Sefton Council has received a petition of objections to the proposal of additional opening hours of the Soup Kitchen on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 11:00am to 2:00pm to serve drinks and give shelter to those in need for a few hours. Currently the Soup Kitchen only has permission to open 11.00 am to 2.00pm on Saturday and Sunday The Soup Kitchen in London Street, Southport, is more popular than ever with record numbers rising month every month. The Soup Kitchen provides food and warmth to the local homeless population, it is run completely by volunteer helpers and is financed by donations from the community and is supported by several local churches. The Soup Kitchen provides hot nourishing meals (stew with meat and vegetables) pudding, hot drinks and a supply of fresh fruit. Takeaway bags are available on Sunday’s. The Soup Kitchen also provides food parcels for families in the community who are having financial difficulties. Distributing 120 meals and several food hampers per week. Deposits and funds for emergency accommodation are provided. Sleeping bags, blankets etc. are also available. The hard work of all the volunteer staff at the Soup Kitchen helps to alleviate poverty and distress and to provide a better standard of living and health for the vulnerable people in our community i.e. rough sleepers, people who are alcohol and substance dependent, lonely and poor of all ages. The Soup Kitchen operates an “open door” policy and does not refuse anyone who is in need.
